Portuguese Inquisition Guided Visit

Synopsys / Teaser

If in the usual nocturnal visits or walks one can recognize through the foliage, among the arches that define the old history of Mountain and Village, the old stories and accounts from History, in "Sintra Mountains Inbetween Wolves" you will travel through the black arc of the great sky dotted with a thousand stars, to a past that it's hard or impossible to imagine - since its reality it is far away from our lousy filters of imagination. And it is all about the wildest past of the most virgin Sintra Mountain.

The fluttering of the foliage announces the wind in which the Light Hawk, the Bonelli Eagle, hide; it is from that same foliage that the Bubo Bubo leaves in long flights, trying to observe in the night a glimpse of the movement of a hare, or the passage of a careless pigeon.

Amid the sound of the stream, the fox disguises its steps, the Three-Toed Skink tries to pass by a snake, by hiding its small paws.

But from the past, in this same Mountain, in these same paths, the wolves, the deer, the wild boars have here also passed. Here were also wild shepperds and friars who, due to their peculiar experiences and unexpected encounters, remained in engraved words, words that have resisted the centuries as the desire to know and protect this recondite forest culture is, on the nights of the days that are passing us, revived in "Sintra Mountains Inbetween Wolves". And it is in the silence that the heart will become the eyes of these past lives, of these feelings of the present.

Elucidation of the Walk

Monuments of men  Vs  Nature monuments

"Sintra Mountains Inbetween Wolves" will not take you inside any monument, it will take you into the depth of Sintra Mountains nature, being only able to see the Atlantic Ocean with the sun sinking in it, before the night comes.

Will we "see" how the past of the mountains of Sintra was?

In this theme you will see the layers of an ancient past that have been overlaping throughout the centuries, be it on the fundations of a single and simple hermitage, be it on the nature which was different.

Miguel Boim will also provide you facts from the past on the old Sintra Mountains - which, undoubtedly will surprise you - as well as some accounts (of the most bizarre ones, of course) from the past. You will also see images and maps from the past..

Atmosphere, security, others

You may cross yourself with few other people when arriving at the meeting point; after that the group will be isolated.

For these walks it is necessary to communicate the activity to the proper authorities; by this, the Civil Protection, the National Republican Guard, the army - as well as other portuguese instituions - will know that this walk is programmed.

Silence is needed. It is forbidden to smoke or make fire.

On the Day of the Walk

What will happen?

The meeting point will be in the historical center or around it, and you will be taken by car (service included) to the West point of the Mountain, where the walk will start. In the end you'll be transported to the point where you were picked.

Warmth clothes are needed, even if it has been warmth during the day.

The route will have around six kilometres and it will take around four hours to be made, where Miguel Boim will tell facts and accounts from the past. The effort it is very similar to the one one does while strolling around Sintra's historical centre during a whole afternoon. From all the available themes, this one it may be the one where less effort it's needed. The terrain is not plain, you need to have comfortable snickers [[[???]]] or shoes that may be considered as appropriate for walks. No flash light is needed, you are going to have one lent.

If the weather is foggy you may not see the landscape in the distance but you will have a more intense environment.

Throughout the walk you will be able to ask whatever you want related with Sintra's history and heritage.

15th century bell in Sintra - Night Walk

Kilometres away, in the village of Sintra, inbetween two of the oldest churches. A bell from the 15th century.

If in the medieval days the village and its surroundings had agitation, how was it in the middle of Sintra mountains?

But not any corridor. It's inside one of the oldest constructions in the center of the mountains..

Then, also inbetween wolves. And with accounts of who lived inbetween them, but had other fears.
